Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a binding agreement between you ("you," "Reader") and Light of the Living Night Operator ("Operator," "we," "us") for the website, reader application, checkout, and related services used to access **The Light of the Living Night** (the "Work" or "Service").

BY PURCHASING, REGISTERING, OR USING THE SERVICE, YOU AGREE TO THESE TERMS. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE, DO NOT USE THE SERVICE.

Headings are for convenience. "Including" means "including without limitation."

You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction to purchase or create an account. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent authority to bind that organization.

The Service is offered worldwide **except** where prohibited by law. You may not use the Service if you are in a jurisdiction listed in Schedule A or on applicable sanctions lists.

You shall not circumvent geographic restrictions by misrepresentation, VPN abuse, or third-party credentials.

The Service provides access to a **literary work of fiction and theological reflection**. It is offered for **personal reading and private study**, not for commercial redistribution, public performance for hire, or creation of derivative works except as permitted by law.

NOTHING IN THE SERVICE CONSTITUTES RELIGIOUS DIRECTIVES, INVESTMENT ADVICE, MEDICAL ADVICE, LEGAL ADVICE, OR COUNSELING. The Work expresses narrative and thematic content; your interpretation and actions remain solely your responsibility.

Mature themes, violence, and spiritual imagery may appear. Discretion is advised for sensitive readers.

Upon valid purchase and entitlement verification, we grant you a **personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable** license to access the digital edition through the Service during the period we make it available.

Unless expressly permitted in writing, you may not: copy or redistribute chapters or downloads to third parties; scrape, bulk-export, or mirror content; remove copyright notices; use automated tools to harvest text; sublicense access; or use the Work to train machine-learning models.

We may suspend or revoke access for breach, chargeback, fraud, or operational necessity.

Sign-in may use Clerk or successor identity providers. You are responsible for credential security and activity under your account.

Entitlements link your account (or email, before linking) to purchased access. You shall not share accounts to circumvent purchase requirements.

Prices and formats (e.g., digital library access, downloadable files where offered) are shown at checkout. Payment is processed by **Stripe**; we do not store full card numbers.

Taxes, currency conversion, and processor fees are your responsibility unless stated otherwise at checkout.

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy at `/refund`, incorporated by reference. Statutory consumer rights in your jurisdiction may apply in addition.

We strive to keep the reader available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, updates, or third-party outages may temporarily limit reading or downloads.

We may update presentation, chapter navigation, or supported formats without materially reducing purchased access during a reasonable period, except where required by law or for security.

You shall not use the Service unlawfully, to harass others, to infringe intellectual property, to introduce malware, to probe security without consent, or to interfere with other readers' access.

You shall not publicly post substantial excerpts beyond fair dealing/fair use limits in your jurisdiction without permission.

The Work, typography, site design, trademarks, and software are owned by the Operator or licensors and protected by copyright and other laws. No rights are granted except the limited license in Section 4.

Feedback you provide may be used without restriction or compensation.

THE SERVICE AND WORK ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

WE DO NOT WARRANT ERROR-FREE TEXT, UNINTERRUPTED ACCESS, OR COMPATIBILITY WITH ALL DEVICES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL.

OUR AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) AMOUNTS YOU PAID FOR THE RELEVANT PURCHASE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR (B) ONE HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING (GBP 100), EXCEPT WHERE LIABILITY CANNOT BE LIMITED BY LAW.

You will indemnify and hold harmless the Operator from claims arising from your breach of these Terms, misuse of the Work, or violation of third-party rights, except to the extent caused by our gross negligence or wilful misconduct.

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach or legal compulsion. Sections that by nature should survive (IP, disclaimers, liability, governing law) survive termination.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

Courts in the jurisdiction of the governing law shall have exclusive jurisdiction, subject to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence that cannot be waived.

If any provision is unenforceable, the remainder remains in effect.

Use is prohibited for persons located in, ordinarily resident in, or organized under the laws of jurisdictions described in the Schedule A detail section of the rendered Terms page.
